Taking Care: Your Feet

If you looked up my astrological sign and my birth sign and all things metaphysical you would find out that I have a feet issue. Aside from my own physical and mental thoughts on feet, I have to say its one thing that I should have paid attention to at an earlier age instead of say hooves of horses.

In my adult life I have not been diagnosed with diabetes for mostly discriminatory reasons of social economic insurance bias. I have double jointed ankles and no need to wear sandals or open toe shoes in part of the horses.

Yet, after the calendar got past 35 I had to pay a lot of attention to my feet. I started soaking in the shower and that kinda of worked for while then in the past five years I have had to seek out podiatrist and actually soak my feet.

One reason is when I lose weight, I lose it in my feet first so my shoe size changes. Second, after years of wearing the wrong shoes and having multiple twisted and sprained ankles I have pay more attention to toes. Third, the horse stepped on them and the shovel hit them, but not at the same time. My feet have been through it and by it I mean miles of walking, climbing, and wearing the wrong footwear.

Both my pinkie toes are turning and the nails are questionable at best. While I would joke about cutting off the offending appendages because inevitable pinch of shoe or graze of a bed post would make me crumble into a puddle of swear words.

Yet, a proper foot care is considered vanity by many and the insurance companies too. I probably have sprained my ankles on each foot at least a dozen times if not more. Walking over 1,200 miles a year is ample opportunity but, stepping up or off a transit platform, staircase or just walking my feet will zig while I zag.

I actually have to schedule elevating my feet at least once a week now. In addition to Taking Care of Me Sundays I now put soaking my feet along with the face mask on so for twenty minutes at minimum I am not doing anything but soaking my feet.

Yes, get the epsom salts, fancy toe nail clippers, foot baths and scrub brushes, but mostly just keep your feet clean and toe nails trim. Pedicures are usually around $50 and if you have one at least every six weeks you should be in good shape. See a podiatrist the same time you schedule your dental cleaning that is free with your dental insurance every six months. Wear proper foot wear and if you can maybe take time walking.
